Foundation Bestie has been operating since 2011, working to care for, protect the rights and promote abandoned, neglected and abused animals, support the work of NO KILL shelters for abandoned animals and educate citizens about responsible pet ownership. Given that Split and its surroundings have never had a registered, public shelter for abandoned animals, the team gathered today around the Bestie foundation has been trying for years to find a way to help a large number of abandoned, neglected or abused pets in a better, more systematic and organized way. In addition to pets, we also often meet "wild" animals that find themselves in trouble in the urban environment, so we help hedgehogs, seagulls, turtles, rabbits and birds. The protection of aquatic and marine animals in our area is also important to us. From our founding until today, we have protected and adopted over 2,000 animals, mostly dogs and cats, and in 2019 and 2020 alone, we found over 900 happy homes. We want to reduce the number of our residents in the long term by educating and promoting sterilization and castration of pets, but it is important for us to be able to provide help to everyone who needs it.
